Full Body Osteopathy

What your Osteopathy treatment encompasses?

On your first appointment with one of our Osteopaths, we will assess your area of pain and analyse the Musculo-skeletal problem through gentle massage and manipulation of the joint. Our practioner will then ask you several questions, making notes throughout, to gain an understanding of your issue and curate a tailored treatment plan. Finally, we will finish the consultation part of your appointment by talking you through your personalised treatment and educating you on your diagnosis. This will give you an understanding on how the treatment will ease your pain, overcome your issue and prevent further issues from appearing. We can also refer you to a GP if we don’t believe our treatment is suitable for your problem or if we cannot find an accurate diagnosis.

How does Osteopathy treatment help our Musculo-skeletal system?

The treatment will then begin, using gentle, pain free massage to reduce the muscle tone, to improve drainage, to increase circulation and to stimulate or relax tissues. We use the bodies mechanical levers to articulate, to stretch, elongate and increase flexibility of ligaments and joints. We occasionally use manipulation, which causes reflex relaxation in related muscles via the nervous system and increases viscosity of the joint fluid. You may hear a slight pop or click from the joint during manipulation, but this is completely pain free.

In addition to this, Osteopathy treatment can also speed up recovery and allow the body’s own self-healing mechanisms to take effect, to aid in this, and resolve restrictions to the healing process.

How many times will I have to visit an Osteopath for my issue?

This is completely different for every single client and is dependent on the severity of your condition, your body and how effective the treatment is on your body.

Some clients like to see us routinely to sustain prevention to any other issues arising.

We recommend a follow up appointment to every one of our clients to analyse and evaluate the effectiveness of our treatment and to ensure each client is satisfied with their treatment and is leading a pain free life.

What do you recommend post appointment?

Your appointment will end with our practioner recommending post appointment treatment at home, whether this is strengthening or loosening exercises, strapping and brace supports or referring to your GP for scans and x-rays depending on the severity of the diagnosis. This can also include advice to changes in your lifestyle, for example not exercising when sustaining an injury.

It’s important to note that most cases of pain are not causes from the area of pain, but from various other areas of the body that reflects on a certain area. For example, if we are treating a work related stress and tension issue to the neck use a combination of cranial osteopathy, fluid/sinus drainage and deep muscle massage to the upper back, neck and shoulder muscles.
