Cranial Osteopathy

Cranial osteopathy works with the body’s involuntary movements and mechanisms. Tensions in the body can affect these involuntary movements. Using a gentle touch and light pressure, cranial osteopathy seeks to encourage the body to release retained tensions. The word ‘cranial’, however, is a bit of a misnomer. Although the treatment is largely applied to the head, it can be applied anywhere on the body.

Injury, stress (physical and emotional) and poor adaptability, among many other things, can leave the body feeling tight and tense. Often, these strains can remain in the body. Over time the body can require more effort to cope with these strains, which can reduce the capacity for your body to heal. Working with your body’s natural rhythms, cranial osteopathy encourages the gentle unwinding and release of these strains and tensions, leaving the patient feeling much more relaxed and the body in a state where it can more efficiently do what it does best: healing.

Cranial techniques can be a great alternative to conventional osteopathic techniques. If you find usual osteopathic treatment too much for you, or simply don’t like the clicks and cracks associated with osteopathy, then cranial treatment can be a way of getting results in a much gentler way. Cranial techniques can also be used in conjunction with other methods of manual therapy. If you simply want to de-stress, by seeking to encourage fluid to flow around your body more freely, a cranial osteopath can help people to feel calmer and more relaxed.
